Player Series: Troy Matteson

See how PGA Tour player Troy Matteson prepares his body in the gym as he joins Dr. Greg Rose and Dave Phillips on this episode of Golf Fitness Academy presented by Titleist.  Troy shares with you his favorite upper body strengthening routine and his quick medicine ball routine to develop speed and timing.

Episode Details

    Total Body Workout.

    Troy talks about using strength training to help his stability in his lower body.

    • Stairmaster training warms up the body and strengthens the lower body.

     

    Training the chest:

    • Incline push up to start your push up routine.
    • Raised leg push ups to add additional resistance to the push up.
    • Medicine Ball push up routine from right to left for a more advanced push up routine.
    • Swiss Ball push up to add core training and stability to your chest routine.
    • Why the chest is important in the golf swing.

     

    Core Training:

    • Medicine ball throws in a sit up position to help strengthen core and lats.
    • Medicine ball side throws to add rotation and work the oblique muscles. 
    • Swiss Ball crunch with some resistance bands to make it tougher. 
    • Side crunch on the Swiss Ball for an advanced core workout. 

     

    Golf Swing Movements:

    • Wood Chop loosening up the hips shoulders and upper back.
    • Diagonal Lifts from low to high simulating the golf swing motion and rotating the arms.
    • Twists with medicine balls for some stability training and loosening up the core, this helps with the swing sequence.
    • Medicine Ball throws simulating the golf swing.
