Player Series: Charles Warren

See how to improve your overall distance in your game as PGA Tour player Charles Warren joins Dr. Greg Rose and Dave Phillips on this episode of Golf Fitness Academy presented by Titleist.  Charles is only 5'-8" tall and weighs 160 pounds, but is ranked in the top 20 in driving distance on the PGA Tour.  Tune in to learn some of his secrets!

Episode Details

    Charles Warren is joined by his strength training coach Randy Myers from Sea Island, GA, and they talk about Charles warm up routine before he goes out and plays.

    Lower and upper body warm up

    • Sit to stand: with a medicine ball, single leg and up on the toes.  Adding arm raise’s to increase lat flexibility and strength in the shoulder and lats.
    • Wide Rotations:  Arms out in front with medicine ball, to help your width adding rotations to increase intensity of stretch and warm up.
    • Hamstring self assessment:  Roll ball down leg as far as you can to feel the stretch in the hamstring. 
    • Hamstring with rotation:  Stretching legs and adding a rotational stretch to mimic the actual golf swing.

    Performance tip: Charles demonstrates the one legged toe touch as a stretch before you go and play.

    Lower and upper body warm up

    • Extension Drill using a stretching pole:  Adding one leg to make the stretch more challenging.
    • Push Pull Drill: pulling with lower arm and pushing with the upper arm to help stretch the shoulders and arms and create a bigger turn.
    • Behind the Back Stretch:  rotations with arms behind the back, Charles show his amazing flexibility.
    • Bosu ball, Single leg set and turns to help stabilize the lower body and increase width and balance in the backswing. 

    Performance tip: Randy Myers shows the Big 60 for a shoulder warm-up. 

    Tubing Drills:

    • Light tubing for warm-up before play.
    • Squats with rows to warm up the lats and legs.
    • Reverse Lunge for good posture and legs and hip warm up before play.
    • Extension Drill to finish warm-up this mimics the golf swing with some additional resistance.
    • Wide shoulder rotations to help stretch the rotator cuff and muscles of the shoulders.
