The Key Putting Variables Most Golfers Overlook - Thomas Rosenmüller Putting Lesson
At TPI, we believe great putting comes down to three essential skills.
1) You must be able to read the green
2) You must consistently start the ball on the line you intend
3) You must control speed
In our latest video with Thomas Rosenmüller, we break down how we evaluate these skills with golfers who visit TPI.
Rather than guessing or relying on feel alone, our approach is to assess each component of putting performance and identify the variables that may be influencing results. That includes more than just stroke mechanics. A golfer’s visual system, equipment fitting, and pre-shot routine can all play a role in whether they can execute what they see and intend on the greens.
This assessment-driven process is the same framework taught in our advanced Golf Level 2 and Golf Level 3 courses, where coaches learn how to evaluate putting performance, identify limiting factors, and build solutions that align with the individual golfer rather than applying one-size-fits-all instruction.
A key aspect of this process is evaluating a golfer's visual system. This starts with a simple test to determine eye dominance which can have a significant impact on how a golfer aligns to their target.
Assessing eye dominance can provide some insight into why a player may be struggling with alignment in full swing or putting.

We also teach tests to assess a golfer's depth perception, alignment and ability to visualize, among others. All of
Will these assessments illuminate every golfer's path to scratch? No. Do they provide invaluable information in a matter of minutes? Absolutely.
