LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATION
Understanding how a golfer moves is a prerequisite for effective coaching, training and treatment. Rather than guess what they do, we believe you should assess what they do.
TPI Level 1 Certification teaches golf, fitness and medical professionals how to evaluate a golfer for physical limitations which can inhibit swing efficiency, durability and, ultimately, enjoyment of the game. Students learn to quickly evaluate a player’s physical capabilities using the TPI Level 1 screen and to understand how the results of that assessment are correlated with the technical elements in the player’s swing. This helps a coach, trainer, or medical therapist to quickly identify the key area that can be holding a golfer back from playing their best. We call this the Body-Swing Connection.

Level 1 Certification isn’t designed to just provide knowledge, but to present a system and pathway for professional development that can propel your business regardless of occupational background or golf experience.
At TPI, we have a very simple philosophy.
We don’t believe there is one way to swing a club; we believe there are an infinite number of ways to swing a club. But we do believe that there is one efficient way for everyone to swing a club and it is based on what they can physically do.

How can you determine what a player’s body can do?
- By using the TPI Level 1 assessment screen.
If a player is limited by what their body can do, they have two options:
1) build a swing that works around their limitations;
OR
2) work with a fitness or medical professional to improve their limitations.

Golfers almost always choose the latter… and when they do, they prefer to work with a TPI Certified expert.
WHAT OTHER TPI CERTIFIED PROFESSIONALS ARE SAYING
If you’re in the business of coaching, physically training or medically evaluating golfers, TPI Certification should be mandatory
Butch Harmon
Assessments don’t just help direct coaching, training or treatment, they offer encouragement to the athlete. When an athlete has identified what is holding them back physically, they are more motivated to attack their limitations.
Lance Gill
The Level 1 Screen efficiently gets me to the critical element that will make the biggest impact in the athlete’s performance. It allows me to deliver the minimum dose for maximum output every time!
Jason Glass
Asking a golfer to move in a way they can’t is the recipe for frustration and confusion.
The goal for all instructors should be to build a golf swing around the students physicality. The TPI screen we teach in our level 1 workshops give the coach the tool to facilitate the appropriate body swing connection for each individual!
Mark Blackburn
TPI is not just another certification that gives you more letters behind your name. It is a multi-disciplinary systematic approach to understanding how the body moves and how to apply the right training at the right time. If you’re looking to optimize your athlete’s performance and be able to communicate effectively to the whole team that surrounds the athlete, then there is no better way to do this than utilizing the TPI system.

While being laid off as a personal trainer due to COVID, I took the opportunity to acquire more fitness tools for my toolbox. I enrolled in TPI Level 1 and Level 2. It paid off and made me a more marketable professional. Consequently, I got my dream job as a Golf Fitness Professional at a country club. If you’re thinking about enrolling in TPI, stop thinking about it. Do it. These guys are the best in the business. Trust me, I’ve been a fitness trainer for over 20 years.

PurchaseONLINE COURSE OVERVIEW
Taught by TPI co-founders Dr. Greg Rose and Dave Phillips, the Level 1 online Certification course is the culmination of over 20 years of educating the best golf-fitness practitioners around the globe. At just over 6 hours, the course is both challenging and entertaining. Using advanced motion graphics to explain complex ideas and useful recommendations to attack physical limitations and common swing characteristics, the course will become a resource for you to come back to again and again.
The Team Approach
The course begins with a discussion on why the nature of golf instruction has changed and why it’s so important to include physical assessment and conditioning as part of a player’s performance plan.
The Kinematic Sequence
Dr. Greg Rose takes the student through TPI’s philosophy of the golf swing and introduces 3D biomechanics. One of the fundamental concepts of the Body-Swing Connection™ is interpreting the kinematic sequence to determine swing efficiency. This section of the course leaves the student with a clear understanding of how the body efficiently generates power during the golf swing.
The Big 12 Swing Characteristics
In this section, Dave Phillips explains and demonstrates the most common swing characteristics TPI has identified in the world’s top players and amateurs alike. Being able to identify how certain swing characteristics are directly connected to physical characteristics such as instability, lack of mobility or weakness is the core of the Body-Swing Connection™.
TPI’s Physical Screen
Learn how to take a golfer through TPI’s physical assessment screen and identify limitations in the body that may be affecting the player’s golf swing. This sixteen-part screen is simple, quick and the foundation for all higher-level courses of study at TPI. The TPI physical screen is the fundamental concept that changed the course of the golf fitness industry and what it means to be fit to play golf.
Rotation Corrections
Learn corrective drills and exercises for those players who failed any of the rotational assessment screens.

What can I expect at a Level 1 webinar?
WEBINAR OVERVIEW
Your Level 1 Online Certification purchase includes the ability to attend TPI Certification webinars for FREE. Some of our best practitioners have attended numerous webinars and seminars to truly become masters of the Level 1 material.
The one-day live webinar allows students to view and interact with Level 1 instructors as they guide attendees through a detailed analysis of how to screen individuals, real-world examples of each physical test and how a player’s golf swing is directly related to their physical screen. Examples of how to address each physical limitation will be discussed including how to identify when a limitation is a mobility, stability or strength issue and swing modifications to improve player performance quickly. Each webinar ends with an in-depth question and answer session.
Introduction to the TPI Philosophy
Our philosophy is the foundation for everything we do. We believe there are infinite ways to swing a golf club, but one most efficient way for every golfer to swing and that it is based on what they can physically do.
The Team Approach
The most successful teams in the world don’t silo departments, but encourage collaboration and communication. We believe this applies to how golf, fitness and medical professionals should approach their work with golfers.
Overview of the Kinematic Sequence and 3D Motion Capture
The ability to create maximum power with the least amount of effort is a characteristic of many of the best ball-strikers in the world. We evaluate this with 3D motion capture and the kinematic sequence.
The Big 12 Swing Characteristics
The Big 12 Swing Characteristics are the most common technical inhibitors which can affect a golfer’s consistency, efficiency and power. Being able to identify them is critical to effectively communicating as a team and establishing credibility with golfers.
TPI’s Physical Screen
Our physical screen is designed to identify limitations in the body that may be affecting the player’s golf swing. Highlighting deficiencies in mobility, stability, motor control or strength can inform how we treat, train or teach each golfer.
The Body Swing Connection
This is where we connect results from the TPI screen to characteristics in the swing. The Body-Swing Connection will change how you look at a golfer’s power and technique.
What can I expect at a Level 1 Seminar?
Seminar Overview
At the Level 1 seminar, students spend two days learning how to apply what was learned in The Body-Swing Connection online class through hands-on practical application. TPI instructors work with students to demonstrate how to become proficient in the TPI physical screen and how to integrate these assessments into your coaching, training or rehabilitation practice.
Students learn the value of the TPI team approach by working directly with other golf, fitness and medical experts in real life body-swing evaluations. For many students, they leave the Level 1 workshop deeply embedded into the culture of golf fitness while having developed new lifelong friends and business associates.
